How to: Grow Citrus in a Container

8. Winter Care. In cold winter areas, bring citrus indoors when temperatures dip into the 30Fs. Slowly transition the trees to the indoor/outdoor environment in spring and fall by bringing them in and out for one week. Place potted plants in a sunny south-facing window, reduce watering and consider placing a humidifier or other houseplants around to keep the humidity high during the dry months. In warm winter climates, protect trees left outdoors from the occasional frost with Christmas lights, blankets or burlap.

Select citrus tree varieties that naturally stay dwarf in containers. It will be easier to care for them and move them in and outdoors in cold climates.

‘Improved Meyer’ lemon is an excellent container citrus selection. The plants stay small and the fruits will grow and mature even indoors in a cold climate.

Kumquats offer many small, tangy and sweet tasting fruits on rounded trees that are adapted to container growing.

Even if you can’t get your citrus to fruit, the sweetly scented flowers leave a perfume that will fill a room.

Black cumin as powerful preventive, treatment for cancer

If all this is not enough, black cumin has long been regarded throughout the Middle East as one of the most powerful anti-carcinogenic herbs in existence. Because it has a spicy, nutty flavor, black cumin can be sprinkled whole or ground up on food, and the oil can also be used on salads and other dishes. Oldest preservation methods known to man. This method can be traced as far back as the Roman Empire. The reason why salt is an effective preservation tool is because the salt protects against harmful bacteria growth. The salt removes water from the meat that harmful bacteria need to grow and flourish. The presence of salt eventually makes the conditions in the meat poisonous for bacteria because the pH levels in bacterial cells become imbalanced. If you feel like trying a new preservation method, using salt is one of the best. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Purchase a cut of meat and remove all the lose ends. You should have one solid piece of meat by the time you are done.

Clean the piece of meat using running water from a faucet. Pat the meat dry with paper towels.

Rub salt on all sides of the meat. Then cover the meat with a layer of salt. The salt prevents the meat from spoiling.

Hang dry the meat for three weeks. The meat must be in a room that is 59 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove the meat from the hanger and wash off the layer of salt after three weeks.

Dry the meat with paper towels and cook the meat any way you want
