She’d called them about a noise/ disturbance in the alley behind the home at about 11:30PM before bed. Her fiancé was reportedly out of town on business and they were to be married next month. This bride to be went out to meet the officers when they arrived to respond to her call, and approached their window, in her pajamas no less. All details of what happened (like being shot multiple time through the open window) that we know so far from there are in the piece below. Many nations around the world are in an uproar over what is being called an unjust death. Even the local city mayor and other political leaders are demanding answers and asking why they had turned their body cams off. In this video, we share tips and advice about working online while you travel, or working online from home.

We’ve worked online for ourselves, and for a startup, for over 3 years and we love the digital nomad lifestyle. It was intimidating (at first) to leave the safety and supportive office environment to work from home, and on the road. We didn’t know if we needed special equipment and gear, if we had to get a super high speed internet connection or a brand new laptop, or where we’d have meetings and find quiet places to make phone calls.

We’ve learned a lot along the way and so we’re sharing tips and advice that we’ve learned from our experiences to help you figure out how to try this lifestyle. We definitely suggest starting with what you have in terms of gear and equipment, and upgrading once you see that your online work is profitable. We waited a year before upgrading to a newer laptop, and even longer for a newer camera.

Our other tips relate to finding WiFi on the road, co-working spaces, learning skills to DIY and keep overhead costs low (see the Skillshare link above!), being flexible, and where to find the best digital nomad destinations using the NomadList website.

Two decades ago, architects David Yocum and Brian Bell were new to Atlanta and looking for an abandoned building that they could “reimagine”. They found their opportunity in a crumbling former auto repair shop. Yocum bought it for $40,000 and spent the next three years working nights and weekends to make it into a home for himself and his wife.

Most of the roof had already collapsed so Yocum removed what remained over the front half of the building and created an open courtyard. Since the remaining building had no windows, to add light, he installed a wall of glass doors for the front and skylights. To insure that the back of the building- at the time the bedroom and living room- wouldn’t be too dark, he didn’t build any solid walls inside the structure. Instead the rooms in the middle of the space- the kitchen, mechanical room and bathroom- have “slivers” for walls to filter light from the front to the back.

“If we had solid walls and no skylights it would be quite oppressive,” explains Yocum. “So if you imagine the idea of a skylight where you’re cutting a hole to the sky, the same attitude was taken with these walls. Instead of having solid walls we would have just a series of small slivers.”

Yocum and Bell began their architecture practice (BLDGS) in the front of the building, but eventually, both the firm and Yocum’s wife wanted more space, so the couple moved out and today the entire space is an office.

The exterior of the building still retains the abandoned look, mostly due to the sealed-shut windows, and the architects like keeping it anonymous. “It’s in the heart of the city, but it’s also a bit of an oasis”.

Inside, now that the courtyard is exposed to the elements, the walls change with the years: paints falls off, the metal windows develop more and more patina. For Yocum and Bell, this aging is a beautiful thing.

“Beauty can be found in a lot of places,” explains Yocum who thinks the reimagining of buildings can be done more often. “It’s no different from a city that’s been around for 600 years, is that you find ways to reuse structures and you discover what you can and you turn it into something new. It’s a very natural approach to things. I think what’s interesting is that it can lead to unexpected situations. ”

All of these as different as they sound from one another are all linked to our relationship to the magnetic fields of the earth.

So what makes this so beautiful is that every human on the planet is linked to the field, but not every human on the planet has to be consciously aware of their relationship to benefit from what a relatively few number of people come to understand.

And the bottom line is this, that when we choose to feel feelings that create what we call coherence in our bodies. Coherence is the language, the quality of the language between our heart and our brain.

Certain kinds of heart based experiences, such as appreciation, gratitude, forgiveness, care, compassion, those are the ancient understandings that have always been taught in the truest traditions of our past and now our own science is finding those same traditions are documenting this very real effect within our hearts.

When we can feel those feelings in our bodies, they’re mirrored in the field and everyone benefits from the experience of relatively few.

All we have to do is our own inner work, to practice love, compassion, gratitude and to be consciously aware that when we do fall out of alignment with our true self, we let go gracefully of our ego and fears to find our balance again.

We are all well aware, from experiences giving and receiving, that our energy can effect ourselves and others in a positive or negative way.
