Absolutely unimaginable this could happen in America

This news report out of New Mexico is so disturbing, it’s hard to imagine this could happen in America. Talk about an unreasonable search:

The incident began January 2, 2013 after David Eckert finished shopping at the Wal-Mart in Deming.  According to a federal lawsuit, Eckert didn’t make a complete stop at a stop sign coming out of the parking lot and was immediately stopped by law enforcement.Eckert’s attorney, Shannon Kennedy, said in an interview with KOB that after law enforcement asked him to step out of the vehicle, he appeared to be clenching his buttocks.  Law enforcement thought that was probable cause to suspect that Eckert was hiding narcotics in his anal cavity.  While officers detained Eckert, they secured a search warrant from a judge that allowed for an anal cavity search.

Initially the doctor on duty refused the search, citing it as “unethical.” Unfortunately, after several hours, hospital personnel relented and did the search. Here’s what happened to David Eckert at that hospital:

While there, Eckert was subjected to repeated and humiliating forced medical procedures.  A review of Eckert’s medical records, which he released to KOB, and details in the lawsuit show the following happened:1. Eckert’s abdominal area was x-rayed; no narcotics were found.

2. Doctors then performed an exam of Eckert’s anus with their fingers; no narcotics were found.

3. Doctors performed a second exam of Eckert’s anus with their fingers; no narcotics were found.

4. Doctors penetrated Eckert’s anus to insert an enema.  Eckert was forced to defecate in front of doctors and police officers.  Eckert watched as doctors searched his stool.  No narcotics were found.

5. Doctors penetrated Eckert’s anus to insert an enema a second time.  Eckert was forced to defecate in front of doctors and police officers.  Eckert watched as doctors searched his stool.  No narcotics were found.

6. Doctors penetrated Eckert’s anus to insert an enema a third time.  Eckert was forced to defecate in front of doctors and police officers.  Eckert watched as doctors searched his stool.  No narcotics were found.

7. Doctors then x-rayed Eckert again; no narcotics were found.

8. Doctors prepared Eckert for surgery, sedated him, and then performed a colonoscopy where a scope with a camera was inserted into Eckert’s anus, rectum, colon, and large intestines. No narcotics were found.

Throughout this ordeal, Eckert protested and never gave doctors at the Gila Regional Medical Center consent to perform any of these medical procedures.

Think that’s outrageous? David Eckert has since been billed by the hospital for all the procedures and they are threatening to take him to collections.Must-watch news report on the case from KOB 4 in New Mexico:

NEW MEXICO  A traffic stop for speeding goes completely wrong when a frustrated cop loses his patience with a mother and her five children.  The ticket the officer was attempting to write was for going 71 in a 55 mph zone.  Oriana Ferrell, the driver, has nine charges…

The first time I saw this video, our jaws hit the floor. It all starts out with a speeding violation, and then it turns to hell. I had to watch it a couple times to just make sure what I saw… was actually what I saw. I don’t think anyone would want to ever deal with the police after seeing this. What could have started and ended with a regular speeding ticket, got out of control so fast, you wont believe your eyes. The mother get pulled over, and was told why (because she was speeding). As the cop walks away from the vehicle to write the ticket, he asks the mother in the minivan to turn off the vehicle. The exact opposite happened. The mom then puts the pedal to the floor and speeds away. The officer pulls her over again, walks back up to the driver side of the car and starts yelling to the mother pleading her to get out of the vehicle. It gets difficult to watch at that moment. The mother refuses to get out of the car. And the police officer becomes less than polite, physically attempting to remove the mother. This is all happening while the children are screaming. At that point, the 14-year-old son decides to get out of the car and walk over to the officer, but the officer reaches for his taser, making the teenager go back to his seat. The mother then pleads with the officer saying, “Sir I pulled back over, I didn’t run away from you! You see my children… I’m not doing anything wrong.” She finally agrees to get out of the car to talk to the officer. The officer then asks the mother to turn around and when it looks like she’s being arrested, that’s when it all turns to hell.

She starts running away from the officer trying to get back into her car, the officer gets even more forceful. The children start screaming. The 14 year old gets up again and runs to aide his mother. The teenager pushes the officer, trying to defend his mom. You will also see another child step out of the vehicle trying to run to her mother, not causing any harm (unlike her older brother in the purple).

After the short argument and the physical exchange, the boy and his mother get back in the car. And as the officer pulls out his taser aiming right at the child in the passenger seat, back up then arrives.

This next part will make you absolutely freak out.

Two police officers then bash the minivan’s windows in. You can hear the children screaming at the top of their lungs. The mother than reacts to all this and decides to drive off.

And this happens:

A 3rd officer then opens fire on the minivan filled with children.

The story ends after a 4 minute high speed chase, and eventually gets pulled over for the 3rd time in front of a hotel. Her 14-year-old son is arrested, and so is she. The mother was charged for child abuse and fleeing from police. The son got charged with attacking a police officer.

As for the officers, the state police department said the officers would be under investigation.

“Knock and announce” police raids are on the rise. They are estimated to occur as many as 40 – 50,000 per year.  Back in the 1970s, military-style police raids used to be a rare event, occurring only a few hundred times per year.

What has happened in the last 40 years to cause the increase? Are Americans really behaving that badly? What is the reason for the rise in the use of excessive force by police officers?

Filmmaker Charles Shaw produced a short film titled “Release Us” to expose the harsh reality of the escalating battle between citizens and law enforcement.

Some highlights from the film:

500 innocent Americans are murdered by police every year (USDOJ). 5,000 since 9/11, equal to the number of US soldiers lost in Iraq.

In 1994 the US Government passed a law authorizing the Pentagon to donate surplus Cold War era military equipment to local police departments.

In the 20 years since, weaponry designed for use on a foreign battlefield, has been handed over for use on American streets…against American citizens.

The “War on Drugs” and the “War on Terror” replaced the Cold War with billions in funding and dozens of laws geared towards this new “war” against its own citizens.

This militarization of the police force has created what is being called an “epidemic of police brutality” sweeping the nation.

A father’s attempt to teach his son a lesson for taking his truck without permission ended in tragedy Monday after a local police officer shot the teenager dead.

James Comstock told the Des Moines Register he called the police on his son Tyler after the latter took the former’s truck in retaliation for refusing to buy him cigarettes.

Ames Police Officer Adam McPherson reportedly spotted the lawn care company vehicle and pursued it onto the Iowa State University campus, where a brief standoff ensued after Tyler allegedly refused orders to turn off the engine.

McPherson eventually fired six shots into the truck, two of which struck Tyler who was later pronounced dead.

The official report claims the action was necessary in order “to stop the ongoing threat to the public and the officers.”

Tyler’s dad says he was unarmed at the time.

“So he didn’t shut the damn truck off, so let’s fire six rounds at him?” exclaimed Gary Shepley, Tyler’s step-grandfather. “We’re confused, and we don’t understand.”

James said his son had his fair share of minor troubles with the law, and was distraught over a recent breakup with his girlfriend, but was in the process of turning his life around, and was working on obtaining his GED at Des Moines Area Community College.

“He was a smart kid. He made his own computers. He was interested in IT,” James told the Register.

The family’s demands for answers got even louder following the revelation that a member of the Ames police department suggested twice that officers call off the chase.

“He took off with my truck. I call the police, and they kill him,” James said. “”It was over a damn pack of cigarettes.”

McPherson is currently on paid leave pending the results of his department’s investigation.
