The Swine Shwe Flu raged across Sri Lanka this week as Gen, Than Shwe of Burma darkened the halls of Buddhist temples this week in spite of the fact he was excommunicated from the faith. Possibly the Sri Lanka government was not aware of the caustic situation with Buddhism within Burma. But knowing Burmese refugees were treated like animals with reports of them being burned by cigarettes by Sri Lankan authorities it’s unlikely. With Sri Lankan authorities embracing Than Shwe it’s all too apparent this government was infected with the Swine Shwe Flu.

Unchecked this disease has infected the once honorable ranks of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and from all indications the *US delegation has shown signs of this disease. Cambodia will soon succumb to this virus since their leadership has embraced Thaksin Shinawattra the fugitive from justice who betrayed Thailand for corporate money. Thaksin is posterior smooching chums of Than Shwe and has disgraced the role of Prime Minister during his tenure in Thailand. You would think Cambodia learned her lesion over the Pol Pot fiasco. Small wonder they will soon feel the wrath of their decision by repeating the mistakes of the past.

With the US dropping the most basic conditions of reconciliation within Burma (Release of Aung San Suu Kyi, Release of all political prisoners, Review bogus constitution) these so called progressive meetings are totally worthless. In fact these talks are nothing more than a photo op moment to appease the G*D’s of greed and corruption. The face of international corporatism better know as globalization is beginning to emerge in Asia as their leadership panders to the lucrative desires of industries and stock holder, not China or the US as reported. Their citizens will soon enjoy living in additional tyranny as Asia spirals out of control. Sadly these events will only foster revolts across the Asian landscape crippling the economies as Swine Shwe Flu spreads across budding democracies. China is on the brink of revolution in spite of all the feel good reports about her economy. With natural disasters already spreading throughout China’s landscape it’s only a matter of time and like dominos the rest of Asia will follow suite. This is a given and there is no altering what will soon come to pass.

In visions it was said western businessmen will be dragged through the streets by angry mobs of the suppressed while impotent western governments looked on with horror. It will be a direct reflection of what is happening today in Angola with the Chinese population since they are under siege as of this writing. The mainstream media called the perpetrators of this siege the mafia but they fail to mention how the Chinese turned the indigenous population of Angola into second class citizens. The Uyghur people of Turkestan have suffered a similar intrusion by China and have revolted. Though the media has stopped reporting the news about the Uyghur their suppression continues. The Falun Gong continues to be used as cattle for harvest for organ “donations” as well as filling the ranks of China’s Gulag System. We’ve all but forgotten about the plight of the Tibetan people in favor of cheaper prices for flawed Chinese goods. How far beyond stupid is that?

The magnitude of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s posturing of economy over human rights is only beginning to show its ugly head. As you well know, it was her hopelessly corrupt husband Bill who gave American industries to China as well as widening the trade deficit. The media has failed to report what the indigenous populations of Haiti thought when Bill and the UN marched into their country with more World Trade rhetoric and 10 more international industries. The people likened this to “more sweat shops” since it was the textile industry that has encroached on this nation. Africa lay in ruins and the positive press from this beleaguered continent does not reflect the views of the vast majority of the populations. It’s all about the money and international corporate greed as natural resources are stolen.

Barrick Gold, with their personal army, murders African citizens with the blessings of corporations and the tin horn dictators with barely a peep from the press. With good reason too, Barrick is one of the largest contributors of Bill Clinton’s “non profit” organization. It is money laundering at its best. Ironically Barrick has laid siege in both North and South America through it’s subsidiaries as well. Other mining interest have followed suite as Indigenous people throughout Central and South America are murdered in secrecy to steal their tribal land. With the mainstream media owned part and parcel by international corporations it is obvious all of mankind is under siege as a hand full of criminals colonize the planet through the corrupt politicians they have purchased around the world.

We made our bed and now we will lay in the cesspool of international corporate greed. Our ambivalence to the cries of the people of Burma will be rewarded since we failed to stop the spread of the Swine Shwe Flu in Asia. Sadly and most predictably we’ve planted the seed of war around the world and this will also come to pass as pandemonium spreads across the globe. What international corporations thought was a fat hog to slice will be a Pandora’s Box they never bargained for. Cutting off the nose to spite their face or simply biting of the hand of the ones who fed them, corporatists languish in the lap of luxury but will discover their axiom of greed was woefully miscalculated. Factors in their equation that have been forgotten or ignored will come back to haunt them as the dark side of the Swine Shwe Flu takes its toll.

Room at the top of this elaborate pyramid scheme will be scarce as the true culprits rise above all their one time allies and partners in crime. And it will be the in fighting of the greedy that will ultimately be their demise. There is no room at the top for everyone who has sold their nations for the corporate dollar as the betrayers become the betrayed. A kingdom founded on lies will perish from the very lies they fostered but nature will have the final say in this equation. There is no dollar figure that will stop the wave of disasters that have already begun across the globe. Money will become worthless as economies falter in the wake of these crumbling empires and this will occur in a matter of days according to visions. We will soon reach the pinnacle of greed via a new world order as mankind arrives at the gates of tyranny.

Enter the intangible aspects of life modern man has ignored and you will soon discover these intangible factors will far outweigh what we thought was important. The corporate bottom line will be replaced with the need to find drinking water, sustenance and shelter. Like the thieves in the night nature is already counting coup while politicians and corporatists find a way to glean a handsome profit by pending natural disasters. Nothing man can muster will alter the course of nature’s wrath. It is simply stupid to consider that buying “carbon credits” will save anything in nature but it will assist in someone’s corporate bottom line. How can mankind buy their way into environmental solvency in the first place? Please explain the science of moving pollution to third world nations. Aren’t we still on the same planet? What is gained by this other than finding cheaper labor with no environmental restrictions? We are still polluting the Earth and that is the bottom line. In any event, it will be nature that will have the final say in the destiny of mankind and that was prophecies by the survivors of the last Ice Age thousands of years ago. Like the old ones say, “The greedy will die of starvation in their sleep while using a sack of pinto beans as a pillow”

The latest plague to hit the planet is the Swine Shwe Flu. This will be the death nil of the contemporary era for there is no cure other than death.

Despite promises to put human rights on the agenda during his trip to Asia, US President Obama is increasingly seen as soft on the issue.

SINGAPORE — Speaking in Tokyo this morning, US President Barack Obama called on Burma’s military rulers to release opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, saying it was a precondition for any softening of sanctions against the country’s military junta.

Obama said Burma needed to take “clear steps” toward democracy, including the unconditional release of all political prisoners, an end to conflicts with minority groups and a “genuine dialogue” with the opposition and minorities on a “shared vision for the future.”

Obama also pledged to raise human rights issues with the Communist leadership in Beijing, attempting to head off concerns that his administration was taking a soft line in countries such as Iran, Sudan and Zimbabwe, as well as in China and Burma.

However, to avoid angering Beijing, he did not mention Tibet. Obama recently came under fire from human rights advocates for refusing to meet Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in Washington.

In contrast, the Bush administration met with the Dalai Lama numerous times, and toughened sanctions on the Burmese junta in response to the harsh crackdown on the 2007 Saffron Revolution. Despite this, the US under Bush maintained a positive relationship with Beijing, according to Singaporean academic Kishore Mahbubani.

In Singapore over the weekend, some leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) bloc appeared to pine for the edgier days of the Bush administration.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told a forum of Apec business leaders that he admired the Republican administration’s policy on free trade. A US-Malaysia trade pact remains stalled. Najib said that he hoped “the same message (on trade) will be repeated” when Obama arrives in Singapore later tonight.

Singapore’s former leader and self-styled “minister mentor” Lee Kuan Yew told business leaders that the US risks being fenced out of Asia unless it revises its newfound aversion toward trade liberalization, while almost all Apec leaders united in calling for a conclusion to the Doha round of trade talks by 2010.

Meanwhile, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told Apec counterparts that “big government is not the answer” to resolving the current economic crisis, or building stronger and more prosperous economies in the future.

The Obama administration is taking heavy political fire in the US, losing two recent state elections to the Republicans, as it pushes for increased government spending, nudging the US toward a more statist governance system and a European-style healthcare plan.

Speaking in Bangkok recently, Kishore Mahbubani remarked that the US had plumbed new depths on human rights by reintroducing torture at Guantanamo Bay during the Bush administration, adding that this meant a loss of moral authority for the US on the world stage.

Alarm has also been growing recently over Obama’s apparent slackness on human rights. When Lee Kuan Yew spoke in Washington recently, urging the US to head off China’s growing clout in Asia, Obama replied by praising the former Singapore strongman effusively, but failed to raise issues about freedom of speech and assembly in the city-state.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton muddied the rights water further when she said that we need a “broad” definition of human rights that doesn’t just focus on freedom of speech, freedom of the press, free elections, or religious freedom, but includes better housing or the right to a job. Cynics say this means that repressive regimes can dispel concerns about basic freedoms by boosting infrastructure or social spending, and is reminiscent of Cold War era sound bites delivered by Communist leaders in Eastern Europe, as well as by leaders in Asia who have long resisted Western pressure to improve their human rights records.

More directly, the US has embarked on a hands-across-the-divide attempt to engage with a variety of regimes—in Iran, Sudan and North Korea, as well as Burma. The US has joined the much-maligned UN Human Rights Council, alongside states such as Saudi Arabia, Russia and China, seeking to “reform it from within,” according to Washington’s UN ambassador Susan Rice. The council has been derided for electing countries such as Sudan, Zimbabwe and Libya, allowing those countries to deflect scrutiny of abuses taking place, and for an excessive focus on Israel.

While the Obama administration has barely begun its engagement with the Burmese regime and pledges not to grant the junta any concessions or reduced sanctions without meaningful reforms first, the impression is that the US will move first to talk to repressive regimes. Despite conciliatory talk from Washington, however, Iran ran a rigged election and clamped down on mass protests earlier this year, while North Korea tested a nuclear weapon.

Besides human rights, Obama will also need to address a major strategic issue during his trip to Asia that looks likely to shape international relations for decades to come—dealing with the rise of China as a world power.

A new paradigm that could inform the way US-China relations develop in the future was recently described by Dr Jing-dong Yuan, the director of the East Asia Non-proliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Non-proliferation Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies. Writing in Asia Times online, he said that “a concept is emerging that calls for ‘strategic reassurance.’” Though yet to be fleshed out, the basic premise is that the US would not seek to impede China’s rise, while Beijing would ease Washington’s concerns about its growing economic and strategic clout.

With the US now trying to make up lost ground to China in Asia, and mindful of its own growing economic interdependence with Beijing, rights issues may take a back seat. Engaging with Burma gives Washington the opportunity to meet the entire Association of Southeast Asian Nations, while hedging on Chinese clampdowns in Xinjiang and Tibet will ensure that Obama can play hardball on issues such as the value of the Chinese yuan, and seek Beijing’s co-operation on North Korea. Burmese citizens may hope he seeks Beijing’s assistance in making the new “engagement” policy with Burma work as well.

US-Asean Drop Call for Free Suu Kyi and Political Prisoners

By SIMON ROUGHNEEN

A post-summit statement by members of the US-Asean Summit takes a soft line on Burma, failing to call for the release of Suu Kyi and other political prisoners, despite efforts by the US.

A post-summit statement by members of the US-Asean Summit takes a soft line on Burma, failing to call for the release of Suu Kyi and other political prisoners, despite efforts by the US.

SINGAPORE — An advance copy of the post-summit statement by the US and Southeast Asian countries fails to call for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners in Burma, despite President Barack Obama making a personal plea for the release of the pro-democracy icon in Tokyo on Saturday.

The US sought the inclusion of wording calling on the junta to “help create the conditions for credible elections, including by releasing political prisoners and initiating a dialogue with political parties and ethnic minority groups,” but the line was not included in the final joint draft, according to The Associated Press, which obtained a copy of the statement to be issued by the US-Association of Southeast Asia Nations (Asean) Summit.

The final draft statement called on the military government to initiate “a dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure that the process is fully inclusive,” according to the AP.The statement will say that “the general election to be held in Myanmar [Burma] in 2010 must be conducted in a free, fair, inclusive and transparent manner in order to be credible to the international community.”

The US has said it will not lift economic sanctions on the Burmese junta unless Suu Kyi and other political prisoners are released in advance of the elections.

US State Department media officials in Singapore contacted by The Irrawaddy would not comment on the draft statement, saying they had not yet seen a copy.

Speaking to The Irrawaddy, Asean Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan said, “We do not know what is in the final statement. It has not been released yet.”

Surin hinted that a one-on-one discussion between President Obama and junta Prime Minister Thein Sein was possible during the summit, which got underway on Sunday afternoon.

Previewing the summit, Surin said “Anything can happen.”

“There are 11 leaders of 11 sovereign states in the room, and they are free to talk amongst themselves.”

Earlier, US officials said that a one-on-one meeting between Obama and Thein Sein was highly unlikely. Obama has scheduled a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono directly following the US-Asean Summit.

Asked if Asean would be offended if the US took a hard line on Myanmar during the summit, Surin said, “This depends on the US.”

Surin said the summit agenda includes climate change, energy, trade, terrorism and economic recovery as issues to be discussed.

He said a follow-up summit is planned for 2010, probably in the US.

Interview with Director of Burma Democratic Concern (BDC)

Share Today at 6:56pm 12 November 2009

[CG Note: London-based Burma Democratic Concern (BDC), founded in 2008, has been noted for its strong campaigns and lobbying activities both inside and outside Burma to restore democracy, human rights and rule of law in Burma.

Recently, BDC was publicly attacked in one of the state-owned Burmese language daily newspapers.

Director of Burma Democratic Concern (BDC), Myo Thein, talks about BDC, its activities and 2010 elections in Burma.]

Chinland Guardian: First of all, tell us more about Burma Democratic Concern (BDC).

Myo Thein: We established the Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) in 2008 after Saffron Revolution in Burma. Since then, we have been doing campaigning and lobbying internationally, intensively and consistently.

Since Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) is the global campaigning and lobbying organisation, we have the branches in United Kingdom, United States and Thailand. We are also planning to open new branches in the European countries.

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) is equipped with participants who had political background and in-depth knowledge of Burma issues, experiences in the past and are engaging in current activities.

The main objectives of our organization are:

• to support efforts to create a political environment in Burma

• to increase awareness about political development in Burma

• to strengthen support for Burma democracy movement in international governments

Chinland Guardian: We have learned that BDC was publicly denounced by SPDC in the official newspaper The Mirror. Tell us more about what they said.

Myo Thein: Junta’s newspaper said that we are funded by US Government intending to destabilize the peace and tranquillity of Burma.

It was regarding about the verdict on Aung San Suu Kyi, relating to the case involving US citizen swimmer, John William Yettaw.

Additionally, they also accused the NLD inside Burma of dancing to the tune in accordance and in tandem with us by issuing statements.

They also accused me of being one of the people who are orchestrating “Global Action for Burma” which is the coalition of more than 120 organisations both from inside Burma and from abroad working together collectively to see justice realities in Burma.

My impression is that junta is scared of what we are doing–campaigning effectively to restore democracy in Burma. I do not respond to it since it is just their accusations and I just focus on what I am doing. I know that I am doing the right thing and eventually justice will prevail.

Chinland Guardian: Some people say ‘campaigning outside Burma’ is not effective any more as many other organisations in exile have not proved until today that it really brings a positive change in the country. What is your view on this?

Myo Thein: I would say we have to do what we believe is right rather than complaining about others or seeing things pessimistically. Our actions reflect how we see things as well.

We must believe in what we are doing since “What we believe is what we achieve”.

All of us working for Burma are trying our best for the betterment of the country. Working to bring about change in Burma is not an easy task to realise. It takes a lot of toils, energy, time and sacrifices to get there. I would say due to everyone’s collective hard works, Burma is where we are seeing today as it is.

Chinland Guardian: Recently, there have been talks about changes in the way in which Burma’s SPDC has been approached. For instance, US now have a different approach and new policy on Burma. Where do you stand?

Myo Thein: I am also aware of the recent development of US new policy and SPDC new approach. Here, we have to look at what will be the best interest for the benefit of 50 million people of Burma. We cannot work with one fixed policy. We must be flexible and we must be ready to compromise.

Here, I would like to highlight the importance of “Time, Frame and Angle” when we approach something, especially in politics. We will always stand on the side of the public since we are working for the people, of the people and by the people. We have to take into account everything due to globalisation.

Chinland Guardian: The military regime is determined to hold its 2010 election and it is believed that it will just go ahead, ignoring the peoples’ voices and even the 1990 election results. After all, is it not better to join them since we cannot beat them?

Myo Thein: Here I would like to stress that “something is better than nothing” is not always right! We all know that Junta held the election in 1990 in which Aung San Suu Kyi-led National League for Democracy (NLD) won a landslide victory. Junta still ignores to honour it and instead, puts Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest. During their reign of terror, people of Burma are suffering tremendously.

Junta never hesitates to use brutal force to suppress anyone who opposes their illegitimate rule.

Aung San Suu Kyi officially once said: “That the results of the 1990 General Elections must be implemented is a resolution already taken by the United Nations.

We already know that the General Assembly of the United Nations has accepted the notion that the will of the people has been expressed in the 1990 General Elections. This is something we cannot abandon. It will be to the detriment of our country if after an election has been held the results are not honoured and we do not resist attempts to trivialise it.”

Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), the unanimous victors of the 1990 election, clearly stated their position in “Shwe-Gone-Daing” declaration that need to place in order to have true national reconciliation in Burma, i.e. to 1. Release all the political prisoners

2. Review 2008 Constitution

3. Allow to reopen NLD and ethnic nationalities offices

4. Recognise 1990 election result

5. Take place political dialogue The junta’s planned 2010 election is only a charade designed to legitimise the military dictatorship within Burma.

The International Community should be aware of the hopelessly irreconcilable contents of the constitution that was adopted in 2008. The referendum was ushered into existence under questionable conditions including extortion and rigged ballots. Giving the military junta 25% of the parliamentary seats, unbridled authoritarian control and a self serving amnesty for the crimes against humanity were truly not the will of the Burmese people. Legitimizing the criminal regime was also not the will of the people and this is incomprehensible and totally unacceptable to the Burmese people.

It should not be forgotten that in spite of promises made by the military junta in the 1990 which they sponsored they did not relinquish power when they lost the election.

Now to insure they will not lose the 2010 election they have intensified the arrests of democratic proponents and concocted charges against Aung San Suu Kyi to eliminate her influence in this sham election.

U Win Tin, Aung San Suu Kyi’s right-hand man said recently: “A central issue is the results of the 1990 election [a landslide win for the NLD]. We can’t throw away the results like a piece of paper or a leaf.” He went on saying: “The NLD won the election in 1990, but to date the party hasn’t been allowed to carry out the election results.

At this point, if we turn our back on the 1990 election results and talk about taking part in the new election, the NLD will be shamed”. Our legitimate leaders are saying crystal clearly the importance of implementing 1990 election results. Whatever junta will do unilaterally, it will not yield positive outcome and will not gain public support not only in Burma but also internationally.

In my point of view, “we don’t need the election in 2010, but implementation of 1990 election results first.”

Chinland Guardian: ENC (Ethnic Nationalities Council) has been campaigning for what is called ‘Tripartite Dialogue’ for years – a dialogue between the military regime, democratic parties and ethnic nationalities.

Do you think this is actually feasible and practical?

Myo Thein: I appreciate that they are doing what they can do best for Burma. If we truly work our best to realise what we believe is right, nothing is impossible.

Chinland Guardian: Some criticise the military junta as being ‘uneducated and ignorant’ while others say they [the military] are cunning and clever, at least, in securing their power and seats for more than 40 years. How do you see?

Myo Thein: We need the revolution of the spirit of junta’s leaders. They need to change their mind-set and perceptions on the way they see things especially on general public.

Gen. Aung San, the Founder of today Burma’s Army, said, “Our armed forces are not for tyrannizing the people, not for flaunting their power in reliance on weapon. The armed forces are the servants of the country and not the other way round.”

This is now the very critical time to reconsider all the patriotic soldiers to stand on the side of the public.

Chinland Guardian: The military regime has been apparently trying to ‘divide and rule’ the peoples of Burma, especially the ethnic nationalities. It might not be wrong to say that the junta has succeeded in implementing their propaganda and the people in some areas start to have divided rather than united. How do you think ‘pure and strong’ unity among the peoples could be gained?

Myo Thein: United we stand. When we are working for democratisation of Burma, we must learn from history what we make mistakes and how we can achieve doing things better. We must have the courage to open the new chapters. Rather than that if someone is only talking about bitter hatreds from the past, it would also create division and mistrust amongst us which would lead to “divided we fall”. We must work together if we truly want to see justice reality in Burma.

In fact, we have to work together since we have no choice if we truly want to restore genuine peace in Burma. We must have confidence and trust each other. We must also be ready to compromise when we dealt with dilemma.

Our leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, always stresses how important it is to have genuine unity in our country. She said: “Unity in diversity has to be the principle of those who genuinely wish to build our country into a strong nation that allows for a variety of races, languages, beliefs and cultures to flourish in peaceful and happy coexistence. Only a government that tolerates opinions and attitudes different from its own will be able to create an environment where peoples of diverse traditions and aspirations can breathe freely in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust.”

We don’t have one quick fix to be a perfect union. Our hope is on our new generation. We must teach them the importance of “agree to disagree, the beauty of differences and unity in diversity”. In that way we can build our country to be a better and bolder union.

Chinland Guardian: Your messages to the peoples of Burma and to those who work hard for Burma both inside and outside the country.

Myo Thein: We have the firm determination, dedication and devotion to keep on working until the democracy is restored in Burma. I would like to stress here that we all have the responsibility to do our part in democratisation of Burma. We must all work together to achieve our destination.

Please do something. Each and every small act today we are doing will be contributed for all the big achievements we will gain in the future. And every great achievement starts with the very first step we are taking.

I believe that we will win and we can do it.

Chinland Guardian: Thank you for your time and answers.

With news *Daw Aung San Suu Kyi may be released to organize her party for the pending election by Senior Burmese Diplomat Min Lwin, I am both happy and fearful. The last assassination attempt on Aung San Suu Kyi made by the junta on May of 2003 is a grim reminder of what the junta is capable of. The need for tight security should be on everybody’s roster if her release comes to pass. Fact is she should have security provided by an international contingent of security experts since I’m fearful the junta will try to have her whacked again. We must not forget the Burmese military’s involvement in the fateful assassination attempt of May 2003, notably Lt. Col. Than Han, Chairman of the Shwe Bo District Peace and Development Council who directed the massacre on May 25th. Over 100 top NLD officials were beaten to death on that fateful day. Fortunately Aung San Suu Kyi survived this attack, to the chagrin of Than Shwe.

The photo to the right shows Lt Col Than Han smiling during the massacre and assassination attempt of May 30th 2003

The release of the political prisoners is also on the agenda according to reports and this is also a welcome piece of news. But again, I am very guarded since the junta is not known for doing anything truly humanitarian. Their lives would be in danger as well since they would be in the public sector and subject to assassination as well. With gangs on the streets of Burma funded and supported by the junta “civilians” would have free reign to execute assassinations while keeping the junta’s hands clean. Is this a trick to get Aung San Suu Kyi out in the public sector then killed by some civilian loyal to the junta? Or is Than Shwe truly turning a new leaf? One thing is for certain, we must be vigilant regardless of what is said for the lives of Aung San Suu Kyi and the political prisoners are in the balance.

With her and the political prisoners release the next area of discord would be the Constitution of 2008 since it is inherently flawed and totally unconstitutional. What guarantee’s are there that the junta will relinquish power if they loose the elections in 2010? The fact they lost in 1990 then arrested the winners is a grim reminder of what can be expected if and when the NLD wins again. Credibility is a commodity that is in very short supply within the ranks of the elite class that has enslaved Burma. It’s ironic that word of a possible release has not stopped the arrests and incarcerations of opposition. Tortures continue on all political prisoners in Insein and other prisons around the country. Ethnic groups continue to flee by the droves as the Burmese Army continues their 4 cuts campaign as well as their genocide program.

Is this latest news just another ploy to buy more time for the junta as they prepare for this rigged election? Or are both Aung San Suu Kyi and the political prisoners simply a bargaining chip to extort money from the USA? If they are bargaining chips their lives will always be in jeopardy and true democracy will never come to pass. Only time will tell as we enter into a new phase as Burma spins towards 2010. On the other hand, what if Than Shwe actually decided to alter the course of destiny? If that were the case he would secure his place in the afterlife as well as that of his generals provided it was sincere. When it was all said and done and Than Shwe was sincere in altering Burma’s destiny I would be the first to give him accolades. I would write a piece that would honor his decision to allow Burma to live and be prosperous once again. But until then, I will continue to observe the activities within Burma with a judicious and skeptical eye.

As we continue to pretend China has evolved from its brutal past atrocities continue with greater zeal than ever before. Slave labor within China’s elaborate Gulag program has made China an economic giant. This racers edge makes it all but impossible for other nations and industries to compete since slave labor is illegal for the most part. With slaves at the helm it’s no surprise China’s good’s continue to have quality issues such as date rape drugs in children’s toys, defective drywall that has already made hundreds of thousands of homes in the US defective and unlivable. But it’s all about the money and corporate interests who’ve continued to import these bogus products and continue to get fabulously wealthy at the expense of US citizens. China is not held accountable like the rest of the world and we continue to allow for their flawed goods to enter this country.

But what is shameful is the fact the free world continues to pander to this criminal regime while millions of her own citizens are tortured, raped and used for body parts. US and other industries have allied themselves with tyranny and wholesale genocide for the corporate bottom line. Sadly this makes the consumer a party to murder and rape as we continue to buy goods made from the blood of innocent people. We, the free world, have become the enemy of humanity in favor of the corporate bottom line and discount prices from China. Small wonder the world is thrust into economical chaos.

The Falun Gong sect along with Christians are subjegated continually enduring false imprisonment, torture, rape and forced disection for human body part “donations”. The mainstream media all but ignored the atrocities and human rights violations with this reprehensible and barbaric regime since their parent companies are deply invested in all that is wrong with China. And we the people let it happen.

FDIC: Mr. Huang Lizhong Tortured to Death in Panjin City Prison
Oct 29: Mr. Huang Lizhong was arrested on February 25, 2008 at his home. He was subsequently sentenced in a show-trial to nine years in prison by the Lianshan District Court, and in September 2008 was taken to Panjin City Prison. On April 20, 2009, a guard named Wang Jianjun shocked Mr. Huang extensively with electric batons to the point that his internal organs were damaged.

At around 2 p.m. on October 20, 2009, Mr. Huang was helped into the visitation room by another prisoner to see his wife. Mrs. Huang hardly recognized him. His face looked very dry, he was as thin as a skeleton, his teeth were deformed, he had no energy to talk, and his whole body shivered. Over a period of only five months, Mr. Huang, a perfectly healthy 47-year-old had his physical condition deteriorate significantly.

Only five days later, at 9:30 p.m. on October 25, 2009, the prison authorities notified Mrs. Huang that Mr. Huang Lizhong had died in custody.

NTDTV: Shanghai Falun Gong Practitioner Sues Police for Torture
Oct 28: “Plain-clothed police from the Shanghai Cangning Bureau of Public Security kidnapped 39-year-old Zhang Ying on September 8th outside her home. Her mother says Zhang was taken away because she practices Falun Gong.

[Ms. Cu, Zhang Ying’s Mother]: ‘The police illegally arrested her and beat her. Zhang Ying was hung up and beaten by three people until she fainted. Now we can’t see her. It’s been over a month, nearly two months now…. We can’t even fall sleep at night.’

[Zhang Chuanli, Zhang Ying’s Lawyer]: ‘Around September 22, at the Shanghai Prison Hospital where I saw Zhang Ying, she needed people to help her walk. She could not walk by herself and was extremely weak. She said police tortured her to get a confession, so now I’ve filed a law suit on her behalf.’”

The Washington Times: Chinese lawyers want Obama to push for Beijing rights
Oct 30: “Five Chinese lawyers met reporters at the National Press Club on Wednesday to discuss their concerns ahead of the Obama visit [to China in mid-November].

Mr. Jiang , for example, has been placed several times under house arrest and lost his license to practice law in June.

‘I defended more than 20 cases involving Falun Gong practitioners,’ he said… ‘Physical torture was quite common. After their arrest, they were often beaten to the point of being paralyzed or . They had trouble gaining access to a lawyer, and even for the lawyer it was difficult to work: We would be stalked, harassed or beaten.’”

Religious persecution has led to the detention and repression of thousands of Tibetans, Uighurs, “unofficial church” members, and Falun Gong practitioners…

The Government also continued to restrict severely the activities of groups…including several Christian groups and Falun Gong…. There were widespread reports that employers, both Chinese and foreign, were discouraged from hiring members of Falun Gong.

Overseas Falun Gong organizations alleged a surge in arrests and deaths of Falun Gong practitioners…

In April 2009, Zhang Xingwu, a retired physics professor from Shandong Province, was sentenced to seven years in prison after police found Falun Gong literature in his apartment.

In November 2009, a Shanghai court sentenced Liu Jin to three and a half years in prison for downloading from the Internet and distributing to others information about Falun Gong.

In December 2009, Bu Dongwei left the country after serving two and a half years at a re-education through labor facility; he maintained that he was tortured because of his Falun Gong activities. Before his arrest, he worked for The Asia Foundation, a U.S.-based organization.

On August 8, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Cao Changling disappeared while riding his bicycle. Two days later, his family was summoned to the Tenth Wuhan City Hospital, where they found him unconscious, with broken bones and bruises. Cao died on August 15 without regaining consciousness; his family maintained that the circumstances of the death were suspicious.

On January 26, 2008, Beijing police stopped musician Yu Zhou and his wife, poet Xu Na, for speeding. Police found Falun Gong materials in their car and detained the couple. Yu died in custody 11 days later. He was reportedly tortured; police refused to allow an autopsy. His wife was sentenced to three years in prison.

Taipei Times: “Activists Call for Release of Falun Gong Practitioners”
Nov 5: “A number of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators, human rights activists and family members of two Falun Gong practitioners yesterday urged China to release the pair ahead of the fourth round of cross-strait talks.

At a press conference at the legislature, DPP Legislator Tien Chiu-chin said the two practitioners — 63-year-old Li Yaohua (李燿華) and her daughter Zhang Yibo (張軼博) — were arrested by police at their residence in Shanghai without any warrant in the middle of the night on June 4 because they distributed 30 Falun Gong flyers to their neighbors’ mailboxes.

Tien said Li, a Hong Kong citizen whose father is a Taiwanese national, and Zhang, a Chinese national, had been detained for more than five months without bail even though Li had been suffering from a chronic illness. Li’s son Zhang Yi-yuan said government agencies in Taiwan, including the Ministry of Justice and the Mainland Affairs Council, had sent letters to their Chinese counterparts urging the Chinese authorities to allow family members to visit Li and Zhang Yibo, but to no avail.

Pan said the DPP is also considering launching a legislative proposal to ban Chinese officials suspected of having persecuted Falun Gong practitioners from entering Taiwan.”

It would appear that the only beneficiary to all these meetings in Burma will be the caterers. With Daw Aung San Suu Kyi still under house arrest, political prisoners continue to be tortured and increased secret arrests of monks and opposition go unreported. Not much has changed in fact things only got worse according to insiders. On the bright side Than Shwe succeeded in buying critically needed time and fostered pseudo legitimacy for his bogus 2010 Election and regime. The shine of US diplomacy has lost its luster in the public’s eye as another round of Gambari’esk meetings fill news feeds with more false hope. Burma and her patriots remain in bondage. The fact *Kurt Campbell and Scot Marciel will hopefully visit Daw Aung Suu Kyi and opposition leaders separate from the junta delegates nullifies the purpose of the meeting in the first place.

U.S. politicians were sweet talking mass murderers while rescuing John “The Fraud” Yettaw, the man who torpedoed Suu Kyi’s legitimate bid for freedom. There is much speculation about the junta’s true role in this caper. There are eye witnesses to suggest much of the Olympic swimming escapade was fabricated but that’s another story. In the meantime the onslaught continues. The **Free Burma Rangers have reported scores (1,500) of Internally Displaced People (IDP) fleeing into the jungles living only on ancient skills in the latest round of eugenics. Nursing wounds sustained in the numerous attacks, these helpless people have been forced to scavenge in the jungle for sustenance and shelter while keeping vigil for junta death squads. The jungles are peppered with anti personnel mines and field amputations are common place for Free Burma Ranger Surgical Teams. But let’s forget that part and pretend the junta is a legitimate entity in the grad scheme of things. We might as well forgive Hitler’s holocaust and the millions of innocent people who also perished under the watchful of the world’s greatest nations.

The world media has been artificially mum about the continued onslaught of the Karen and other ethnic groups. Feel good political hog wash has filled the air waves with distortions and blatant lies. First hand information from the Free Burma Rangers painted a completely different picture gleaned from the pallet of human suffering. To be a journalist in Burma is to type with the keyboard in front of you and a gun barrel pressed to the back of your head. There are other courageous journalists and news groups though. They share many of the same risks as the Rangers. Only they don’t perform field surgeries with night vision gear behind enemy lines.

With an arsenal of advanced and chemical weaponry, (provided by China, India and North Korea), men of Burmese Army Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 599, Infantry Battalion (IB) 73 and IB 39 have intensified ethnic cleansing operations. Between October 9-10 mortars rained down in the Nwa Lay Ko, Giblayta and Saw Poe Ta regions as Burmese troops shot their way into the lives of villagers. As we fawned over well intended yet futile misguided engagements death reigned as villagers cried out to an ambivalent world. The bottom line is this, without Aung San Suu Kyi and her delegation at the table with all players, including Than Shwe, there is no legitimacy to the dialogue. The junta does not reflect the will of the Burmese people, not by a long shot. If the world honored the will of the people back in 1990 Than Shwe would have been hanging out in Paris with his wife and a couple retired generals. But alas, it would appear the free world is just as full of green house gasses as the mindless 2008 Constitution, the cornerstone of the 2010 Election.

Than Shwe has murdered his way into Burmese politics violating every tenet of human rights imaginable in his reign. The free world has done nothing but offer sanctions to “most” industries while coddling others who skirt the international mandate. Filled with feel good speeches and broken promises after the election of 1990 the Burmese people take words from the west with a grain of salt but still keep just an inkling of hope. Apparently so does the junta and cohort Kim Jong II of North Korea who already cashed in on the Gullible’s Travel’s of neophyte western diplomacy.

Than Shwe’s astrologers are struggling to plot a new course with the least amount of tribulation but it’s impossible and they know it. The excommunication of Than Shwe and his military has placed him in a new light. Actually this exposed him for what he actually is and it is not Buddhist. Than Shwe is a traitor to his nation and has betrayed the core tenets of his mission as a general, to protect and defend the people of Burma. Religion was only a tool of manipulation and his presents in pagodas have been met with deadly results. Following the path of evil will glean rewards that will last an eternity. By perverting a sacred dogma such as Buddhism he has cursed himself as well as all who chose to follow him into the caldron of retribution.

Than Shwe knows he lied to everybody around him, even his wife. He seeks out soothsayers so they can help him find his path as well as buy him time in their sacred incantations and spells. It is his astrologers who are actually at the reigns of power in Burma and Than Shwe is only their disciple. They know Uncle Than’s days are numbered and are also poised with anticipation for his demise. It is almost laughable that Than Shwe does not have magic of his own and has to borrow it. He draws magic from other dubious sources as well but none of his magic is actually his. And there is no way he can reinvent and mold any religion to justify what he has done to the people of Burma. One thing is for certain; Than Shwe will not be alone and he will share his misery with his staunches supporters whence they cross onto the other side. And they better bring their asbestos toe shoes.
